If.

Do you ever have one of those moments? You know the moments I’m talking about- the rainy ones. The ones that make you forget the sun ever existed at all. The moments when your umbrella refuses to open and the clouds are no longer in the sky; they’re over your bed.

The thunderstorm is not a hug. It’s a slap in the face. It’s never soft words. It’s tough love.

It’s hard to remember those days now. You see, they come without notice. You always think you’ll get a fair warning, maybe in the weather forecast, but the truth is they hit you when you think you’re dancing under the sun- when your skin burns the most. And when they come, they leave you numb and soaking wet. You no longer need an umbrella. You need a life vest.

That’s when she walked in. In the middle of the thunderstorm and while the streets around me were buried under water. Her words dissolved the clouds and simple, tiny moments with her became life boats. The ones that carry you to the shore and right before you reach it, you take the big leap- You jump in the water yourself and you swim. Because you no longer need a life vest.

And if you’re very lucky, you can’t even hear the thunders anymore. Because you can now hear music. And lyrics. And the melodies that you had forgotten for years.

To the one that feels like sunshine.
Especially when she sings.
